My Computers

I realise I care about all my laptops very much and yet I don't post about them. What's my problem? That's exactly the kind of thing people are interested in: computers, laptops. They're cute, (in the case of laptops) portable, reliable daily-use objects with a vast amount of interesting things to do with them. Why have I not made such a page already?
Granted, many laptops are not cute, and many people don't think of laptops as cute, but not me. I love my laptop collection very much, and in fact I name all of mine. Not everybody does that, do they? But I do...
I just obtained a new Let's Note, so I thought to make a page on it.
Merry

Model | Panasonic Let's Note CF-SZ5A |
---|---|
Processor | Core i5-6300U |
RAM | I thought she had 16GB, but it was only 8GB...! |
Storage | 477GB SSD |
OS | Windows 10, modded to look like 7 |
Charm point | Circular trackpad |
My brand-new main workhorse. Actually a model from 2016, even older than the laptop she replaced... To be honest I'm having trouble getting used to her. The body is the exact same as my old girl, her younger sister Mari, but whoever refurbished it replaced the keyboard with an American one. I was extremely used to the Japanese layout already, and it made things very convenient as I like to type in Japanese to search things up and for this and that too, so now I've been thrown off.
I was also under the impression that she had a solid 16GB of ram, but she has a measly 8GB. It's not like I do any hardcore gaming on her but it's still disappointing... I like to have it just in case!
Other than my silly gripes, she's pristine and works well. I'm very happy with her. I transfered Mari's soul over and was immediately in business.
Panasonic Let's Notes are just beautiful computers. They have a lovely circular trackpad with chiral infinite scroll, a sleek silver (optionally black or even pink or blue) body, are extremely light in terms of weight, and boast all sorts of ports. In my opinion, they are the ideal a laptop should strive to be. The design has practically not changed for two decades, and with good reason!
Merry feels wonderful to use, whether I'm coding or drawing or playing Balatro or scanning stuff or talking to my friends. I highly recommend a Let's Note model for anyone wanting a cuter laptop. I heard they come with up to 32GB of ram these days.

Model | Fujitsu Lifebook T2020 |
---|---|
Processor | Core2 Duo U9300 |
RAM | 2GB |
Storage | 144GB HDD + 144GB HDD (288 total) |
OS | Windows Vista Business + XP Tablet |
Charm point | Swiveling screen |
A laptop from 2008, sold to me by its original owner; he was toothless with a long beard and he told me all about how he bought three brand-new for his business back in the day but the other two don't work but if I want them I can contact him any time. He was very passionate about showing me the features, too!
He also told me, "I had this Mexican guy working for me, and he didn't know how to read or write, so I had to stick the login on the front..." and then he went on a long rant about his former employee. How interesting.
She's a nifty little thing who can swivel and fold back onto herself! Perfect for pixel art (the thing I originally bought her for), visual novels and viewing websites through an older and smaller monitor. I can't exaggerate how much better old websites look on this thing.
She came with her stylus, retractable mouse (which lights up red), and even her original carry case. I plan on decorating the carry case sometime, because resale value doesn't faze me. I don't exactly intend on reselling my things...
But speaking of decoration, I have obviously decorated Chouchou. I've covered her in ribbon and gave her back a nifty charm on the back spelling her name. Isn't it cute? I did it in a weird manic fit after I had already cleaned many of the paint splatters from her keyboard using WD-40.
Now she's my "aura farming" laptop or whatever. If I have a simple standalone webpage to work on, or want to play a visual novel, or I might even have some writing to work on that I need no distractions for, I might dress up and bring her out in public with me. Is it stupid behaviour? Yeah. Is it fun? Also yeah. I love attention.
Serina

Model | Toshiba Tecra A3X |
---|---|
Processor | Core Pentium M |
RAM | 512MB |
Storage | 80GB HHD |
OS | Windows XP |
Charm point | Massive screen |
The one which started my collection. My main laptop was actually broken when I bought Serina, but I wanted a cute XP machine to play with, and she happened to fall into my lap for cheap... I did everything on her for a period of time, but I was also without official digital responsibility, that is I didn't need access to modern applications for school or work or my personal life. Messaging and email were handled via my phone.
I actually installed Linux on her for most of her life. She ran Q4OS!
On Serina I had my music, my writing software, some games, and more... I watched episodes of Kamen Rider Ryuki (off a USB) and Ren and Stimpy (off a DVD) on her every single day and I cared for her greatly. But you can't live like that forever, can you? Eventually, responsibilities catch up to you...
Now I still use her to watch shows in 4:3 aspect ratio, when I have the opportunity. Her screen is absolutely massive and while her size makes her awful to haul around as a laptop she's amazing as a television screen of sorts. Sometiems I make websites or play Puyo Puyo on her, too.

Model | Panasonic Let's Note CF-SZ6Z |
---|---|
Processor | Core i7-7600U |
RAM | 16GB |
Storage | 512GB SSD |
OS | Windows 10 Pro, considering switching to Linux |
Charm point | Circular trackpad |
The Let's Note I bought after I fell in love with the line, and my old main workhorse before her older sister Merry had to replace her.
Her sleek silver body and circular touchpad are amazing to use. The only reason I put her down was because the DC jack was fragile, and now even nudging the charger a little bit interrupts the charge... which is worrying. She's been delegated to home life.
She has a little Takuya Angel sticker on her palmrest.
