Takuya Angel

My collection of Takuya Angel pieces. Takuya Angel is my favourite J-fashion brand ever... I had an EGA phase, and I'm considering going back to it on top of the Angeler stuff, but to me nothing can beat the vision that this label has.

Takuya Angel is, first and foremost, inspired by traditional Japanese clothing and ideals. Takuya Sawada originally started selling altered kimonos from his wife's vintage kimono collection in the 90s, and his vision to make attractive Japanese clothes for Japanese people solidified when he met with a priest and came to the revelation that Japanese people aren't Japanese enough and it was his duty to make clothes blending Japanese and Western styles. (Yes, he's kind of a Japanese nationalist.)

He takes inspiration from a variety of sources: traditional Japanese attire, Shinto deities, Neon Genesis Evangelion, raver culture, fetish clubs, Mobile Suit Gundam, and so on. Personally, I'm really into the Neo-Japonism and Samurai Punk styles—I just love the silhouettes!—but the Mononoke style is also very attractive to me.

The Mononoke style is the doing of DJ SiSeN, a guy who many Visual kei fans know despite only barely being Visual Kei. He's a DJ just like Takuya Angel. He's a Cyber type and he wears lots of Takuya Angel and FOTUS and God knows what else. But he came up to Takuya in the late 90s and said, "I want fun rave pieces with fur and claws!", and that pushed the brand in such a fun direction!

When I dress up as the Angeler I am, I feel like a sorcerer. The amount of customisability when ordering straight from Takuya himself is amazing. And what other label lets you talk directly with the designer about your ideas?
