100 Questions for Artists

icon

Sourced from stupied; the blank is available here. I love to answer questions; I'm very happy.

1.) Introduce yourself! What kind of art do you make?
My name is MOUSEcky. I am a traditional artist who sometimes, begrudgingly, does digital art. I also want to try to sew more. I also take a lot of photos, but I don't include that in my general sense of being an artist.
2.) How long have you been making art?
For as long as I have been able to think, I have been making art, much to the annoyance of my family, teachers, and so on...
3.) How many hours do you spend for each piece?
I'm actually a very fast artist, but I can get scared. Traditional art is not easy, but it is efficient. The piece below only took me around 19 minutes! That being said, I did draw with the goal of "getting it over with".
PLEASE, HERO!
4.) Do you prefer taking your time or do you like to quickly move on to the next thing?
It depends on the piece. I can be very very slow while inking comics, or reference artworks, but with regular drawings (and especially the dirty stuff) I can honestly get too embarrassed to spend too long on whatever I'm doing.
5.) When do you decide a piece is finished?
Seeing as I can't fiddle around endlessly like with digital art, when there's no more room to colour or shade I generally lay the piece down to rest. That being said sometimes I just wanna do a lines-only sketch.
6.) What part of the creation process do you enjoy the most?
Colouring for sure, but I also like faces and letting character personalities shine through!
7.) What part of the creation process do you dislike the most?
Figuring out posing... I can't figure it out. I might never.
8.) Do you have a designated workstation or do you just work wherever?
My desk.
9.) Do you monetize you work or is it purely a hobby?
I do take commissions but it's a hobby first and foremost.
10.) Where do you share your work? On social media or a personal websites? Do you keep to yourself and close friends?
I post on various websites (zD FTW) and in Discord servers and on this very website, but since the new year ticked over, I haven't bothered to update my database to support years other than 2025. Great long-term thinking, man.
11.) What's an aspect of your art you enjoy?
My colouring. I super duper love my colouring.
12.) What are things you would like to improve on?
I need to become better at drawing characters interacting with each other.
13.) Are you self-taught or had formal education?
Completely self-taught.
14.) Do you research about old techniques or stick to newer ones?
I merely copy people I look up to.
15.) What do you value more, experimentation or mastery?
I like to play around...!
16.) Do you practice drawing with your arm? What other art techniques to you practice?
Unfortunately no. My technique comes down to "whatever gets shit on the page"...
17.) How frequently do you do studies?
Nevar. I've got to get through that.
18.) Do you understand color theory? How'd you learn or do you want to?
Lots and lots of classes since primary school have drilled it all into my head... ha, ha, ha.
19.) Favorite color(s)?
Red, blue, anything cute and cool.
20.) Are there colors you avoid? Do you think ugly colors exists?
I can't use a light brown very well (though I definietly have produced it) with my current marker set, but I don't think there's such thing as an ugly colour.
21.) Can you do perspective?
Not correctly xD
22.) Do you like doing lineart? How do you go about it?
I do, ever since I got proper ink pens as payment for a commission from a friend! I line with the goal of things looking good in black and white before I ever add colour, or otherwise with the goal of just expressing the form. Being precise isn't mandatory; as long as other people can see the vision... my coolest work has been with a 4-colour pen
23.) Do you have multiple unfinished projects? Will you ever get to finishing them?
Many. No.
24.) How do you start a new piece? Do you have a plan or just figure it along the way?
It depends...
25.) How do you handle art block?
I don't. *whine*
26.) Do you listen to music or watch something while working?
Music, all the time, no matter what. Nerdcore techno is great for this.
27.) When are you most motivated to create? In the morning or evening? Rainy or sunny?
I'm most motivated to create when something arouses me (not neccessarily sexually).
28.) Are your sketchbooks messy or aesthetically pleasing?
Messy messy messy messy...

Ony if I can flip to specific pages. You can't just open it and go through it... or else you'll see some very unsightly things
30.) Do you have any art friends? IRL or online?
Yes; both.
31.) Do you collaborate frequently with your friends? Is there something you'd like to work on together?
Not really, but I'd like to. My girlfriend and I have been meaning to do some joint-drawings.
32.) Have you created art to gift to others? How do feel about parting away from your work?
I have! I think it's nice, but I'm also sentimental, so...it depends...
33.) Have you drawn for someone else? Like commissions or requests? Did you enjoy it?
I have indeed. I really like commissions when the directions are clear or the character is cute; I get to exercise myself, and all is well.
34.) How's your posture?
Let's not talk about that. I look like Toda-san.
ew
35.) Have you ever been injured making art?
I've cut my fingers several times; I've poked my own eye; I've given myself terribly stiff wrists...
36.) What's a medium of art you've wanted to try / currently attempting?
Sewing.
37.) Do you prefer stylized or realistic art?
Stylised. I can't help myself; cartoons are cute.
38.) Do you like hyper-realistic art?
I elect not to speak on this matter.
39.) Do you like abstract art?
I think it's cool.
40.) How do you feel about fine art?
Fine. Not my focus so I don't exactly care...ha ha.
41.) How do you feel about outsider art? Do you think you fall in that category?
I really like outsider art. I wouldn't say I fall into that category despite not being in any sort of "art community" until recently and never having professional training.
42.) Do you follow art trends?
No...
43.) Do you think your art is influenced by what's currently popular?
I'm generally avoidant when it comes to "popular things", which is a shame because by the time I find out what makes something so great everyone has moved on. My art is influenced by things that overwhelm me: Osamu Tezuka, Eric W. Schwartz, Gundam, things of that matter.
44.) Do you compare yourself with others? Does it affect you negatively?
I do. I've become a lot more confident with myself though.
45.) Your controversial art take?
I don't know if I have one. I don't know what's controversial. I draw for myself.
I guess I really really hate digital art. Not other people doing it; I loev other people's diigtal art; but I hate doing it myself, and then wehn I speak with another artist, they're shocked I stopped doing digital art seriously years ago. I just can't do it! It's frustrating and never works in conjunction with my brain. I greatly admire digital artists.
46.) Art related pet peeves?
"OMG I THOUGHT THIS WAS POPULAR CHARACTER AND ITS NOT"
47.) Who or what are your inspirations?
I kind of already mentioned this: Osamu Tezuka, Eric W. Schwartz, Gundam [and old anime/manga in general], fanime art from the days of old... I have a wide variety of inspirations that I wouldn't even be able to name though.
48.) What's an art piece / artist you wished got more attention?
I think everyone and everything needs a little more attention and care,
49.) Have you touch grass recently? Do you go out frequently or do you spend most of your time indoors?
I go out almost daily. I'm infamouse for taking 3 hour walks.
50.) Do you create art daily?
Not anymore... I go between 500 pieces a day and barely 1 in a month.
51.) Do you take breaks from creating? How frequently?
It...depends
52.) Do you set deadline for your work?
Not unless there's an external reason.
53.) Do you archive your work? Do you keep old pieces?
Yup. A while ago I resolved to keep everything in a big binder folder.
54.) Are you embarrassed of your old work? Or are you indifferent by it?
Absolutely... sigh. But I won't throw out my high school sketchbooks.
55.) Do you seek out for criticism? How do you handle feedback?
I don't neccessarily seek it out but I like feedback when it's not mean spirited.
56.) Are you harsh on your own work? Or do you love your work despite all it's flaws?
A bit of both. There are always glaring flaws, and some of it just sucks, but I generally have come to find my own work extremely charming. I'm proud of it.
57.) Do you get compliments frequently? How do feel about them?
Infrequently; they make my giddy. I'm an attention seeker.
58.) How do feel about the rise of generative AI? Do you use it for getting ideas or references?
I don't use it and I have complicated feelings on it. A non-artist using AI for concept art is no different to photobashing for the same effect in my opinion, but in the technology's current state with the impact on everything, it's a little rough. It's not like I support the way it's being handled and used and, but it's not like it's bad specifically because it creates images.
59.) How do feel about tracing? What about tracing 3d models to streamline art process?
Tracing 3D models and references is whatever. I don't do it; I have no lightbox for one!
60.) Drop you art resources!
My huge brain and this marker set.
61.) Do you prefer making fanart or original content?
Mostly fanart, some original.
62.) Do you think original content are more creative than fanart?
Depends.
63.) Do you strive for originality?
I suppose I do; I like being unique, and I like being told that!
64.) Do you draw from imagination or heavily rely on references?
Imagination... *blushes*
65.) Do you think using references is a crutch?
Absolutely not. It's correct practice if anything.
66.) Do you like to make mood boards or scroll through Pinterest?
I scroll Pinterest all the time, not neccessarily for art though.
67.) Does your work have a story behind them or do you just make things that you think look neat?
It depends! (I say this a lot...)
68.) Do you think art should have a purpose?
Not neccessarily.
69.) Favorite aesthetic?
My own aesthetic. I don't know what even counts as an "aesthetic" and I hate when people ask things like "What core is this?", but maybe I'm just bitter...
70.) Do you have a muse or a theme you fall back to?
The band Souiumono and all my beloved picopico bands; my daughter Pessy; cute things.
71.) If you could eat you art, what would it taste like?
Gummies, with no added flavour or preservatives.
72.) If your work suddenly became sentient, would it adore or hate you?
Depends on which work. Anything drawn with perverted desires would certainly hate me.
73.) Based on previous question, can you win in a fist fight against it?
Ha, ha. You're funny.
74.) Is your art style consistent? Do you prefer making a wide variety of art?
More or less. It does change, but it's all easily attributable to me, which is good.
75.) Do you revisit old concepts or sketches? Do you touch em up or leave them as is?
I'll redraw something if I feel like it, or pick up some characters again and play with them in a new way.
76.) Do you believe in talent or is it all skill?
Some people will naturally be drawn to create more art, some will want to take it more seriously than others, which people will then label as talent. It's a complicated matter.
77.) What's your favorite thing to draw / make? Do you prefer making living things or still life?
Cute characters; this is often musician fanart but I digress.
78.) Do you create your art with a specific audience in mind? Who?
Myself, and I suppose other fans of the things I like.
79.) How do you feel about people taking inspiration from work? Do you think art style theft is real?
I'm flattered. I think trying to draw exactly like someone is cheap, but it's not like I haven't gone through phases of trying to copy various manga/comic artists.
80.) Do you participate in art conventions? Do you sell your work or support everyone else?
Not anymore...
81.) Are you art materials expensive? Do you hoard any tools?
I actually don't hold onto many tools.
82.) Do you organize you supplies and tools systematically?
Just the box my markers came in, and a little 3D printed pen holder I was gifted...
83.) Do you clean up after a project? Or do you just leave everything lying around till you need the space?
I'm guilty of the second
84.) Do you have a ritual before you start creating? Do you have a drink or some snacks?
Nope.
85.) How do feel about censorship in art? Where do you draw the line for inappropriate art?
It's a complicated topic. I could talk at length about it, which is bad for this questionnaire. I don't like censorship. Harassing people is bad; dragging randoms into your mess is bad; loudly talking about your extreme fetishes merely to piss off people who don't like it is bad, among other things. The reality of "free speech" is that you are also freely subject to the consequences of what you have to say, which includes getting in trouble for whatever.
86.) Do you censor your own art? Do you feel like you leave out details for it be socially accepted?
Sometimes. It depends. I love that phrase, it depends... but say, I don't post fanart in certain places, because it's more likely to get me a black eye than wide appraisal. At the same time, when I've let myself go and posted the stranger stuff on private accounts, I suddenly indiscriminately get praise I never even get on the regular stuff...
87.) Do you feel intimated with starting a new projects?
Always.
88.) Are you scared of your art regressing? Do you think it's even possible to get worst at art?
A little, but then I take a look at my older art, and I realise that despite my ups and downs I've improved a lot. It's fine to get a little worse; you can always improve later.
89.) Do you frequently make compromises for your work? Does your art come out the way you envision them?
A lot. Sometimes I simply can't get things right, or I self-censor, among other things.
90.) How well do you manage your mistakes? Do you stress about them?
Massive ink blots can ruin a whole artwork, but some minor mistakes are almost guaranteed to bleed into my works, and that's fine. As long as the whole piece is pleasing and understandable.
91.) Do you make lists of things you'd like to make? Do you actual commit to them?
In my head. No.
92.) What is your ultimate goal of your work? Like, is to tell a story, connect with others, or just to enjoy the process?
I want to create cute things to look at forever; I want to make a little money off my hobby; I want praise. I'm selfish and that's okay.
93.) What's something you've recently worked on that you're really proud of?
I'm somehow proud of most things I draw.
94.) Do you have any dream projects? Have you started on them?
Yes. but I haven't properly started on anything. There is a lot of work that goes into telling a story, and I don't know how to convey certain things, or even what formats I want to use.
95.) Would you prefer unlimited money or unlimited time to make your projects?
Unlimited money is unlimited time.
96.) Why do you create art?
I think it's fun, and producing new things makes me happy. I want the entire world to be cute.
97.) Are you happy with what you create?
Surprisingly, very.
98.) Do you think everyone should make art?
I think so. A sketch on a napkin is just as valuable, especially when it's from soneone who doesn't really draw at all. Some of the sweetest artwork I've ever seen has been from amateurs who just aren't into it.
99.) What's advice you'd give to newer artist?
Don't throw out your old artwork. Try to intuit how artists you look up to think about things rather than copying the end result. You'll figure it all out eventually.
100.) When did you finish this? How'd you feel?
2025.02.04, 9:55 AM. I feel good.
